Behind the scenes at the BAFTA Television Awards 2017

The telephone rings... "would you like to shoot the BAFTA Television Awards this year Charlie?"

I've never done anything like that before... but when they said they were giving me free reign to photograph it however I liked I couldn't really say no, could I? I mean, who turns down a free pass to the biggest night of the TV year? Bring it on. Cue hours of running up and down staircases, getting soaked through on the red carpet, battling with no light backstage, guessing if I should hit the green room or the wings, and trying to find the perfect angle on Joan Collins. So much fun.

Massive thanks to Claire for trusting me to take my own approach. Can I come back next year please?

Europe - From Sunrise to Sunset

That’s right. It’s time for part two of my epic adventure photographing for UnitedHealthcare Insurance. After travelling around The Americas with my camera, I found myself soaring across the Atlantic Ocean. I was going on a Eurotrip through Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Venice, Florence, Tuscany and London… let’s hit the road.

Like the Americas, I had very little time in each place and lots of photographs to take. Once again, it was a case of photographing from sunrise to sunset: snap, eat, snap, sleep, snap, repeat. I found myself cycling the canals of Amsterdam, photographing loved-up strangers in Paris, eating ‘the best pizza’ In Rome (every pizzeria’s claim) and pretending to be a tourist in my home city of London.

Thank you UnitedHealthcare Insurance for the experience. One of the most intense but enjoyable jobs to date.

Premier Skills - Virtual Reality Exhibition

Once the exhibition ends and the photographs are taken down, you assume that's it. This is not the case for my exhibition that celebrates 10 years of Premier Skills as it lives on in the form of a virtual exhibition - pretty cool yeh? So, if you were unlucky enough to miss the exhibition in person you can now walk through it online.

Take a look here: LINK

And if you've got google cardboard or similar then even better - pop your phone on your head and walk into 10 Years of Premier Skills.

Huge thank you to the guys at for putting the virtual exhibition together.

Eurovision 2017 - Lucie Jones for the BBC

As a photographer you never know who is going to be on the phone next and it keeps you on your toes. Enter Eurovision. Yes, you read correctly, the all singing, all dancing, glitz and glamour that is this continent's song contest. The BBC asked me to photograph Lucie Jones, the UK contestant. And they asked for me to come up with ideas…

That’s how I found myself in a cloth shop ordering 50 meters of red silk, playing around with wind machines and harnessing the power of some blinds I stole from a bathroom. I love it when you get to have some creative fun - so massive thanks to Victoria for the commission.

Best of luck to Lucie: go UK!

I experimented with some different post processing techniques, what do you think?

The Americas - From Sunrise to Sunset

Toronto, Niagara Falls, Montreal, Vancouver, Vancouver Islands, Cancun, Tulum, Chichen Itza, Mexico City, Guanajuato… and breathe.

I travelled around these wonderful places taking photographs for UnitedHealthcare Insurance. The brief was to ‘capture each place’ I visited… in a day… do you know how big Mexico City is? Google it.

I had my work cut out… but I have always embraced a challenge and I love to travel. I photographed from sunrise to sunset and everything in between. I was hopping in and out of cars, slipping around security guards, street-casting strangers to be my models, and even got to swim with whale sharks (that was bloody awesome).

I wish I had more time to properly soak up each place - but it was wonderful to get a taster of so many amazing destinations. Let’s just say my ‘places to visit’ list has expanded quite considerably… but it definitely doesn’t include Cancun.

And this was only the first part of the assignment. Europe was next: LINK
